New Social Media Service – Vine

Vine is a new mobile application by Twitter that hosts short video clips for sharing through the user’s Twitter feed

It launched on 24 January 2013 as a free iOS app for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch and can be downloaded from the Apple App store. Other platforms are planned to be supported in the future.

The service supports video clips up to a maximum length of six seconds. While this may at first glance appear to be a limitation, user’s creativity will work on ways to make the most of the time available.

  1. Thanks for the information – could it be useful for an IT related company?

Social Media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter and Google+ are all very useful in helping to promote brand recognition and also are good platforms to engage your customers. What would Vine be good for?

  2. Vine certainly can be useful for IT related or any other company and is potentially a useful addition to any business’s Social Media strategy.

When Twitter when it was first released there were many negative responses suggesting that nothing meaningful can be conveyed in just 140 characters. How wrong they were!

Similarly, some are suggesting that 6 seconds is too short to be used constructively. These comments are usually uninformed reactions, from people who have not actually looked at how Vine is being used. I’ve been using Vine successfully for the past month or so to promote my own business by giving short instructional videos on using certain features of the iPad, among other things.

    See for some examples.
